Five years ago this week, the bricks to build this baby were delivered to Orcas Island. We spent several weekends over the next year and a half building our first wood-fire kiln. You’d be amazed at how much flexibility and co-ordination is needed for nine potters on one small island to find a common time to meet 😂 👏 Cheers to our 8th firing with a group of potters I am so grateful to call friends!

Spring-fresh flair heading to @orcasartworks this weekend.

Sharing with you the fiery beauty in this wood fired bowl on an overcast day. This piece was twice fired. In the second firing, the bowl was placed at an angle to capture the flow of glaze and ash. Lots of post-firing grinding was necessary from that particular firing. It is in my personal collection and I feel a infinite space in the surface that the camera just does not capture.
